Consultant Psychiatrist
I am a Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult and Liaison Psychiatry, and
a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych). I have
further qualifications as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and
I am registered with the British Association of Behavioural and
Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP).
Speciality
I am a Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in a broad range of
Psychological Conditions in Adults.
My clinical expertise includes stress, anxiety and mood disorders,
trauma, psychosis, alcohol addictions and medically unexplained
symptoms. In addition I provide assessments and management of many
other psychological conditions. I can also provide Medico-legal
reports.
I believe in a holistic approach to an individual within the
framework of a warm and caring professional relationship.
I offer assessment with management tailored to the needs of the
individual to include medication management and psychotherapy, both
individual CBT and (systemic) family therapy. I can provide outpatient
appointments and follow-up care.
A dual qualification in Medicine and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
places me in a unique position to provide a comprehensive initial
assessment for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, which is usually required
by the leading medical insurance agencies. I can then also deliver a
course of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Consultant Appointment
Since January 2000 I have worked as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist
& Honorary Senior Lecturer at South West London & St George’s Mental
Health NHS Trust, London. In 2006 I worked as a Liaison Psychiatrist
at the interface of medical and psychological symptoms at Kingston
Hospital NHS Trust.
Training
I graduated in Medicine from The Queen’s University of Belfast in
1984. My post graduate training, in all subspecialties of Psychiatry,
was gained at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge, St George’s Hospital,
London, and Manchester Royal Infirmary. In 1990 I worked for 2 years
in Liaison Psychiatry and Chronic Pain in Auckland hospitals, New
Zealand. Research interests include the Carers in the Community Care
for mental illness, and psychological manifestations of physical
illness.
